WindGuru | This site was really designed for surfers and kite surfers but gives good wind direction and speed information, as well as wave height and direction, for some beaches near diving areas. Link should default to Freshwater West, which is just outside Milford Haven. |
Easy Tide | Use the free predictions section for your chosen port. This is from the UK Hydrographic Office. The free service only allows you to look forward seven days. |
Organisations | |

The Sub Aqua Association is an overseeing body which ensures standards of safety, management and training across all member clubs. The SAA has a federal structure, its' member clubs maintaining considerable autonomy. |

Sub Aqua Association affiliated club number 349 is Llantrisant Sub-Aqua Club. Based at Llantrisant leisure centre they are the nearest neighbouring club to the west along the M4. |

DDRC | The Diving Diseases Research Centre. A charity doing a lot of good work using hyperbaric medicine to treat both divers (mainly DCI incidents) and other medical patients. This link goes to a page with useful information on managing diving related incidents and treating DCI. |

PADI | The Professional Association of Diving Instructors is a commercial training organisation which is not backed up by a club structure. Many PADI trained divers subsequently join SAA clubs in order to continue their diving. PADI is an international organisation and their training qualifications are recognised all around the world. |
BSAC | The British Sub Aqua Club is probably the oldest club based diving organisation in the world and has a similar training structure to the SAA, although the club and management structure is different. |
Cave Diving Group | The Cave Diving Group is the oldest group of 'technical divers' in the world and has a divisional structure with 'Welsh', 'Northern', 'Derbyshire' and 'Somerset' sections. Members specialise in using a mixture of caving and diving techniques and equipment to explore flooded caves and mines around the UK and abroad. |

Cromhall Quarry | Cromhall Quarry is five minutes drive from M5 junction 14 and about an hour from Cardiff. The site offers weekend diving to depths of about 10 m, with a very useful easy-entry beach area, equipment servicing and gas fills. Divers need to pre-book via their website. |
Stoney Cove | This 13 acre lake in an old stone quarry in the heart of Leicestershire, near Stoney Stanton, offers depths down to almost 40m and several good underwater attractions. |
Vobster Quay is five miles from Frome in Somerset and is also a flooded stone quarry offering depths to 40m. This is an attractive dive site, with 36 acres of water and many underwater attractions to explore including the remains of the old crushing works. They also have ducks and rainbow trout. Bristol Channel Diving Services | Cardiff's premier dive shop. Equipment servicing, air and mixed gas, new and used equipment for sale, stockist for several major equipment brands. They also do technical training in various flavours. |
Haven Diving Services | A new venture in Milford Haven provided by Ceri Jones (of SAA / Llantrisant Divers) and friends. They provide gas fills, repairs and servicing and are usefully positioned for divers launching at Gelliswick. Tricky to find; get behind Tescos where there are some modern business units and ascend a short hill to turn right amongst some older non-descript white buildings. Haven Diving Services are in the gated unit in the corner; "HDS" on the wall by the door. |

Caving? | Fancy trying caving? Cardiff's local caving club is the Morgannwg Caving Club, which meets on most Wednesday evenings from about 9.20pm in the Earl Haig Club (at 23 Penlline Road, Whitchurch, Cardiff - same venue as Trident Divers). The club includes cavers of all interests (including cave divers) and novices are very welcome. |
